Happy New Year everyone as we move towards 2022 – Sailweb

Even with the few sailing events in the UK at this time of year already canceled, it looks like little has changed despite the best efforts of national governments.

For all of their vaccination deployments and on-off restriction regimes, the number of Covid-19 infections continues to climb.

With over 2.8 million active cases in the UK and over 160,000 cases per day, it doesn’t look like we’re about to get back to normal anytime soon.

So as hope springs eternal and plans are made and schedules are posted. . . the reality looks like another year of last minute cancellations and travel restrictions.

For the contenders for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, it could well be less haste more speed.

One year was effectively cut off from the normal four-year cycle, and with the complete overhaul of the sailing events – removing two dinghy events and introducing four new board events – the RYA preparation program has some catching up to do. .

World Sailing still seems to be in deep hibernation as they rearrange the furniture, with the website struggling to make progress to the Promised Highlands.

It seems clear leadership from the top is still a work in progress.

So happy new year everyone, get started and keep going!
